First Semester Mentoring Program

Starting something new is always difficult? Not at htw saar!

Studying at a new university you’ve never been to before is very exciting and challenging, especially as an international student. Standing in a foreign country, in a foreign city on the campus of a new university might be quite overwhelming and raise a lot of questions:

Where’s the library?

What does the long word “Studierendensekretariat” mean?

How do I sign up for classes and when do my first lectures start?

htw saar wants to help you answer these questions right from the start.

Student mentors will guide you through your first days in Saarbrücken and the at the university. In small groups, you will be guided through the buildings showing you the most important institutes and offices and will clarify any insecurities concerning organization and process of studies. Furthermore, in your free time, you will join activities within your group which will help you to get in touch with your fellow students.

Furthermore, you can always contact your mentors when questions occur during the semester – or if you just don’t want to enjoy your lunch break or coffee all alone.

IMPORTANT: Please sign up for this mentoring program at least three weeks before your arrival in Germany as places are limited.

You can find further information on the program itself and the application here (unfortunately, in German only):
