We process personal data that we receive from our students as part of the application process and during their studies. We also process data that we receive from our cooperation partners in the context of continuing education.
Relevant personal data may include
Name, address, telephone, e-mail, date and place of birth, gender, nationality, professional qualifications, certificates
For the purposes of data security, we also temporarily store data from your access to our website that may allow identification (e.g. IP address, date, time and pages accessed). An evaluation, except for statistical purposes in anonymized form, does not take place.
If you apply for a position at htw saar, we will process the personal data you provide in your application documents in order to contact you and assess whether you are suitable and qualified for the position for which you are applying.
We process the aforementioned personal data in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation, the Federal Data Protection Act and the Saarland Data Protection Act in order to fulfill our task as a university of applied sciences (Article 6, ABS. 1a, b c, e of the EU General Data Protection Regulation).
In the context of selection procedures for the filling of positions, the legal bases arise in particular from Article 33 (2) of the Basic Law (GG), the General Equal Treatment Act (AGG), the State Equal Treatment Act (LGG), the Saarland Higher Education Act (SHSG), the Saarland Civil Service Act (SBG) and collective agreements. The legal basis for processing in the context of the selection procedure for the establishment of a civil servant, employee or trainee relationship is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. e, para. 3 GDPR in conjunction with § Section 31 of the Saarland Data Protection Act (SDSG).
Within Saarland University of Applied Sciences, those departments that need your data to fulfill their legal obligations, our partner universities and our cooperation partners within the framework of Erasmus or other exchange programs as well as cooperation partners within the framework of further education may receive data for these purposes.
Your data will not be transferred to third parties outside the university for recruitment procedures. Within the university, your personal data or the application documents will be passed on to the members of the respective selection committee, the responsible HR managers, as well as a staff council (if responsible) and representatives (e.g. equal opportunities officer and, if applicable, the representative for severely disabled persons). In appointment procedures, in accordance with Section 43 SHSG, comparative reports from external experts are required for applicants who are intended for a place on the appointment list. In these cases, the application documents are forwarded to the experts. In all other cases, the first-placed candidate will be notified as part of the rejection process.
Only to the extent that this is necessary to carry out our legal duties, especially in the case of tri/binational degree programs or internships or exchange programs abroad, our cooperation partners or partner universities are involved.
We process and store your personal data for as long as is necessary to fulfill our contractual and legal obligations.
Your personal data/application documents as well as further documentation of the selection process with your data will be returned to you three months after the selection process has been completed or destroyed or deleted. This applies in each case unless longer storage is required for the defense of legal claims of htw saar.
If your application is successful, your cover letter and CV will be included in your personnel file.
Every data subject has the right to information in accordance with Art. 15 GDPR and, if the legal obligations to store your data have been fulfilled, to erasure in accordance with Art. 17 GDPR.
Data protection law grants you the following rights:
Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR), right to erasure (Art. 17 GDPR), right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR), right to object to processing (Art. 21 GDPR) and a right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR).

In order to be admitted to Saarland University of Applied Sciences as a student or to participate in a continuing education program, you must provide us with your data.
In the case of recruitment procedures, the provision of personal data is necessary for the legality of the selection procedure to be carried out. The absence of relevant personal data and required evidence in the application documents may result in the applicant not being considered for the position. This uses the extended data protection mode, which, according to the provider, only starts storing user information when the video(s) is/are played.
