Proof of foreign language proficiency at CEFR level B2 or higher must be provided in the form of a current, certified language certificate.
All exchange programs at a htw saar partner university require proof of B2-level proficiency in the language(s) of instruction for your exchange program along with your application by January 15.
Please check the Language Requirements listed for each partner university in the Outgoing Exchange Database (OutEx).
In most cases, the national DAAD language certificate is sufficient. However, some partner universities require an internationally recognized language test, such as the TOEFL. Details can be found in the OutEx entry for each partner university. You may only apply to partner universities whose language requirements are met by the certificate you submit.
A German high school diploma (Abitur) indicating B2-level proficiency in a foreign language is NOT accepted as proof of language proficiency. The only exception is French for French-taught programs in France (see Section 3 below).
1. DAAD LANGUAGE CERTIFICATE
How to obtain a DAAD language certificate?
Your DAAD language certificate must have been issued no more than two years before you submit your application.

If you already hold an internationally recognized language certificate (e.g., a current TOEFL – valid 2 years, or Cambridge Certificate B2 First or higher – lifetime validity, or IELTS B2 minimum, or DELF for French, DELE for Spanish, etc.), you do not need to obtain a DAAD B2 Language Certificate even if applying to partner universities where a DAAD certificate is required.
