Information on medical certificates and public medical officers (inability to take examinations due to illness and how to obtain a medical certificate from a public medical officer)
Medical Certificate (§23 ASPO)
- In case of illness, a medical certificate must be submitted immediately (htw saar -Prüfungsamt, Goebenstraße 40, 66117 Saarbrücken).
- The certificate must attest to your inability to take the examination.
- It must be an original certificate (a preliminary excusal by fax, telephone or e-mail is not required!).
- The period of the illness must be stated (if the end date has not yet been determined, a provisional end date is required).
- A diagnosis is not required.
- The submitted medical certificate can be viewed after a few days in the htw saar Online Student Service System (htw saar Studierenden Service) (https://stdservice.htwsaar.de) under → Menü → Prüfungen → Attest(e).
You will only be excused for examinations if your examination is booked for the semester in question.
If you cannot send your medical certificate by post, you can drop it in the letterbox in front of the Examinations Office. Make sure to write your student registration number on the certificate (no further details are required!).
If there are any additional questions, the Examinations Office will contact you by post/email.
Public medical officer (§23 Abs. 3 ASPO)
- In cases of doubt or repetition, the Examination Committee may require you to submit a medical certificate from a public health officer. You will be informed of this in writing by the Examination Office.

Usually, you have to submit a medical certificate with the diagnosis, the symptoms and the treatment that you have already begun. You must see the public medical officer on the following working day at the latest! If you have any questions, please contact the respective public health department.
If you are in the hospital for treatment, a certificate of your inability to work from the hospital is sufficient!
- This requirement may be waived if, for example, you have health problems or family obligations.
