htw saar has received numerous top ratings in the 2026 CHE University Ranking. The degree programs in the Faculty of Economics, in particular, stand out with excellent results and several placements among the top-ranked programs. This year, the programs in Business Administration, Digital Business and IT, Social Work, and Industrial Engineering were evaluated, as well as the dual-track programs in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, and Business Informatics. For the relatively new Digital Business and IT program, only results based on factual indicators are currently available. The ranking by the Center for Higher Education Development (CHE) is one of the most important university comparisons in the German-speaking world and combines student evaluations with key metrics—so-called factual indicators—on academic programs and teaching.
“The CHE ranking is an important benchmark for us,” explains the Vice President for Academic Affairs, International Relations, and Sustainability, Professor Dr. Thomas Bousonville. “We use the results strategically to further improve the quality of teaching and to ensure our degree programs are future-proof.”
The results particularly highlight htw saar’s strengths in program organization, student support, and practical relevance. Several degree programs achieve top ratings here or rank among the top group. The dual ASW degree programs also impress with very good results in program organization and structure. The degree programs in Business Administration, Digital Business and IT, and Industrial Engineering also rank among the top group in the “Support at the Start of Studies” fact indicator.
Industrial Engineering performs particularly well. Students rate the general study environment, course offerings, faculty support, academic assistance, and career and practical orientation consistently very positively, placing the htw saar program among the top in its subject group nationwide.
Business Administration also achieves very good results. The program receives high ratings particularly in terms of program organization, faculty support, academic support, and opportunities for study abroad, placing it among the top programs in its subject group nationwide.
“The results confirm the high quality of our degree programs. Students rate the combination of practical relevance, clear structure, and close supervision particularly highly,” says Professor Dr. Malte Beinhauer, Dean of the Faculty of Economics.
The Social Work program achieves good results overall. Students rate the organization of the program as above average. At the same time, they identify areas for improvement, such as exam organization and digital teaching formats. In this regard, the Faculty of Social Sciences has already taken measures as part of a comprehensive reform of the program, which will be implemented starting in the winter semester of 2026/2027 and are intended to contribute to a further improvement in the quality of the program.
The dual degree programs also contribute to the positive overall picture. The dual degree program in Business Administration, in particular, stands out with very good ratings for the general study environment and program organization. Students especially highlight the close integration of theory and practice. In the dual degree programs in Industrial Engineering and Business Informatics, the program organization is particularly impressive, receiving top ratings.
