Dr. Sebastian Rahn is currently an assistant professor at the Saarland University of Applied Sciences (htw saar), where he will continue to engage in research and teaching, focusing in particular on topics related to socialization, upbringing, and education.
A particular focus of his work is also on biographical research into the life courses of those served by social work. Sebastian Rahn’s academic focus lies in extracurricular educational work with young people, particularly in open child and youth work. As part of his junior professorship, he was able to carry out a research project on the history of youth work in Saarland and its significance for the development of democracy.
Other key areas of his work include school social work as well as—beyond that—the collaboration between youth services and schools, for example in the context of full-day programs. Since 2025, he has also led the study “School Social Work in a Nationwide Comparison,” in which professionals in this field were surveyed nationwide for the first time.
