Dr. Vasiliki Kolovou, previously a deputy professor for research-based practice in healthcare at Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Department of Nursing and Health, received her certificate of appointment as a professor at htw saar on 9 October at the Ministry of Finance and Science.
Vasiliki Kolovou studied Biomedical Sciences at the University of West Attica in Athens, Health Sciences/Public Health at Bielefeld University (with an additional European Master of Public Health) and completed her doctorate in Sociology at the University of Warwick (UK). She also worked with the Regional Office for Europe of the World Health Organization (WHO) in Copenhagen.
Her research focuses on health promotion and disease prevention, particularly obesity prevention, and the evaluation of health programs to improve health and equity. She investigates how and why programs work, for whom they are particularly suitable and under what conditions they can be successfully implemented. The aim of her work is to gain a better understanding of the effectiveness of prevention measures and to provide findings for the further development of public health strategies. She also analyzes social and structural factors influencing health.
At htw saar, Vasiliki Kolovou will research and teach health promotion, disease prevention and the evaluation of public health measures as part of her professorship in health sciences.
She intends to shape her professorship as an integrative framework for cooperation between health sciences, social sciences and public health practice and to specifically promote international networking of research and practice in the field of public health.
