The degree program deals with the physical, psychological and social conditions of health and illness. It is interdisciplinary and teaches the basics of all relevant specialist areas relating to health, illness and prevention.
Bioscientific foundations
Students acquire knowledge of
Anatomy, physiology and biology of the human body and its organ systems
Important clinical pictures, e.g. diseases of the cardiovascular system, neurological and psychiatric diseases, endocrine disorders or cancers
Psychological basics
The psychological modules focus on human behavior in connection with health and illness. Students learn, among other things:
Content from developmental, social and neuropsychology
How stress influences the development of illnesses
How people can be motivated to adopt healthy behavior
Social and societal perspectives
Students examine how social and environmental factors influence health:
Effects of climate change on health
Issues of health and social inequality, e.g. whether all people have equal access to health services regardless of their social situation
In addition, students learn about the structures of the healthcare system and the health policy framework - for example, who finances which services and how the system is organized.
Scientific and methodological skills
Scientific basics are taught:
Introduction to scientific theory and research methodology
Application of quantitative and qualitative methods
Statistics and epidemiology, e.g. how diseases are distributed in the population
Prevention and health promotion
Special emphasis is placed on the prevention of diseases and the promotion of health.
Students learn how appropriate measures are planned, implemented and tested for their effectiveness in different settings and for different target groups.
These three national health goals are considered in particular:
Growing up healthy
Living and working healthily and
Growing older in good health.
Practical and interdisciplinary skills
In addition to specialist knowledge, practical and personal key skills are also taught, including
Communication and counseling
Project management
In a practical study phase and in project work, what you have learned is put into practice.
