Allgemeine Betriebswirtschaftslehre und Tourismuswirtschaft
Kerstin Heuwinkel ist seit 2005 Professorin für Internationales Tourismus-Management, insbesondere Tourismussoziologie, an der htw saar. Ihre aktuellen Forschungen liegen im Umfeld des Responsible Tourism mit Fokus auf Sportreisen und die Potenziale für Social Entrepreneurship und Female Empowerment. Ausgangspunkt für ihre Arbeiten ist ihr interdisziplinärer Hintergrund, im Wesentlichen die Kombination von Soziologie mit der Informationswissenschaft.
Kerstin Heuwinkel ist Autorin zahlreicher akademischer Publikationen. 2019 erschien das Buch Tourismussoziologie ( http://www.utb-shop.de/tourismussoziologie-9823.html), das mit den ITB BookAward erhielt. Sie hält regelmäßig Vorträge auf Konferenzen und ist Mitglied der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Tourismuswissenschaft DGT e. V. ( https://www.dgt.de/) sowie im Arbeitskreis Tourismusforschung der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Geographie e. V. ( https://www.ak-tourismusforschung.org).
Von 2002 bis 2005 leitete Kerstin Heuwinkel eine Arbeitsgruppe am Fraunhofer Institut für Software- und Systemtechnik und promovierte 2004 an der Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf. Sie studierte in Düsseldorf und Barcelona.
Dr Kerstin Heuwinkel (PhD) is a tourism sociologist and has been a Professor of International Tourism Management at Saarland University of Applied Sciences, htw saar, Germany, since 2005. She teaches both the Bachelor's program in International Tourism-Management and the Master's program in Leisure, Sports, Tourism Management, which she directs.
Her current research, which has significantly contributed to the field, focuses on responsible tourism, including developing innovative teaching formats and content. The starting point for her work is her interdisciplinary background, which essentially involves integrating sociological and information science approaches into tourism studies.
Kerstin Heuwinkel is the author of numerous academic publications, many of which have been recognized and awarded for their excellence. In 2019, the book Tourism Sociology (2nd ed. 2023) was published and received the prestigious ITB BookAward. Other monographs include Women in Tourism (2021), Community-based Tourism (2024) and Family Travel (2025). She regularly speaks at conferences and offers workshops. She is also on the board of the German Society for Tourism Science (DGT), an active member of the Working Group Tourism Research (AKTF) of the German Society for Geography, and a reviewer for the DAAD (Erasmus+ KA2 program) and journals.
From 2002 to 2005, Kerstin Heuwinkel headed a working group at the Fraunhofer Institute for Software and Systems Engineering. She received her doctorate from Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf in 2004. She studied sociology, information science, and political science in Düsseldorf and Barcelona.
