The General Student Committee (AStA) is responsible for representing the htw saar students. It represents student interests vis-à-vis employees, professors, institutions, committees and the university management. Problems that cannot be solved with the help of the student council are passed on to the AStA. Externally, the AStA represents htw saar students vis-à-vis the media, the responsible ministry, the state government, etc.
AStA members are elected by the student parliament by secret ballot. At the htw saar, in contrast to other universities, candidates are elected directly and not on party lists. Accordingly, party political influence on the AStA is low. The AStA members have equal rights and define their tasks in a business distribution plan.

All of the students enrolled at the htw saar are divided into faculty student bodies according to its statutes. The task of the faculty student bodies is to represent the common subject-related interests of the students within a faculty, or within one or more related degree programs.
The statutes of the student body contain regulations on the faculty student bodies, in particular the faculty council, as well as framework regulations for the respective faculty student bodies. The framework regulations specify how the bodies must be constituted, how they are convened, what their tasks are, how resolutions are passed and how long the bodies are allowed to be in office, as well as how funds are allocated to the faculty student bodies and how those funds must be managed by the faculty student bodies.
