Georg Maringer
The full-time Vice-President, whose responsibilities include administration and business management, is in charge of human resources and finances in accordance with the Saarland Higher Education Act (Saarländisches Hochschulgesetz), as well as fulfilling the duties of the head of the department in accordance with the Saarland Staff Representation Act (Saarländisches Personalvertretungsgesetz). In accordance with § 22 SHSG and § 12 (2) SHSG, he has the authority to appoint the civil servants and employees of the university, in total approximately 400 people. In addition, he is the htw saar’s budget officer.
The VP-W's departmental responsibilities include organizing day-to-day operations, allocating positions and funds, financial planning and controlling, the university's strategic marketing, university building measures, the digitalization of the university, data protection and, last but not least, security - whether digital, on campus, occupational safety or dealing with the Corona pandemic. Within the President’s Cabinet, he is the point of contact for the library, as well as for the University Center for Information Technology, a joint operational unit of the Saarland University and the htw saar.
In addition to the staff units for Controlling, University Construction and Campus Development, and Strategic Marketing, the Legal Office, the Human Resources Department, the Finance Department, the Events and Marketing Department, and the Facility Management and University Services Department report directly to the Vice President for Administration and Business Management.
Georg Maringer, born in 1970, has a degree in geography. He studied at the University of Mannheim, majoring in physical geography with minors in geology and botany (University of Heidelberg). After internships in research, at BASF AG and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, he began his professional career in 1998 in Frankfurt/Main as a management consultant at the communications consultancy firm KohtesKlewes. He then launched a start-up company and held further positions in corporate groups and medium-sized businesses before his career path finally led him to the htw saar in 2010. Initially, he was the managing director of FITT gGmbH, the Institute for Technology Transfer at the htw saar, until 2018. In October 2018, he joined the htw saar’s President’s Cabinet.
To date, the main focus of his work, in close cooperation with the University Management Team, in particular with President Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dieter Leonhard, the department heads and all of the university's committees, has been, among other things:
