Life in Saarbrücken

Saarbrücken, the capital of the federal state of Saarland, is a welcoming and vibrant city with a big international community. Although smaller than other major university cities, Saarbrücken offers a rich variety of cultural and recreational activities, ensuring that city life remains exciting. In addition, compared to other university cities in western Germany, the cost of living, including accommodation, is more affordable.

Unique Location in the Heart of Europe

Saarland’s central European location makes it an ideal starting point for international exploration. Cities such as Paris and Strasbourg can be reached in less than two hours, while Luxembourg is only one hour away. Frankfurt, Brussels, and Basel are approximately three hours away. For nature lovers, Saarland offers scenic forests and hiking trails. Students arriving in the winter semester can also enjoy the festive charm of traditional Christmas markets, both in the region and across the border. Last but not least, Saarland is home to the impressive UNESCO World Heritage Site Völklinger Ironworks, highlighting its rich industrial and cultural heritage.
