Through initiatives, resolutions and recommendations, the University Council identifies perspectives for strategic development and profile building to improve the performance and competitiveness of the university. It supervises the management of the Executive Board and can request submissions within the framework of the statutory allocation of responsibilities.

Composition of the University Council

The University Council consists of seven personalities from academia, business, the workforce and public life (non-university members) and five members elected by the Senate. The Chairperson is appointed as the seventh non-university member by the head of the highest state authority responsible for science after consultation with the Senate.
The President, the Equal Opportunities Officer and a representative of the highest state authority responsible for science are each members of the University Council in an advisory capacity.

Appointments

Its tasks include

1. passing resolutions on the structure and development plan,
2. approving the business plans and monitoring their implementation,
3. adopting the annual financial statements and approving the proposed appropriation of the annual result,
4. participation in the election and dismissal of the President,
5. the election and dismissal of the Vice President for Administration and Business Management,
6. the approval of the principles for equipment and for the economic and task-oriented use of funds for research and teaching,
7. the approval of the establishment, modification and abolition of faculties, degree programmes, academic institutions, competence centers and other organizational units,
8. approving the allocation and release of university teaching positions,
9. commenting on the basic regulations and framework examination regulations,
10. accepting the accountability report of the Executive Board and approving its actions, and
11. commenting on the application for the dismissal of part-time Vice Presidents.
