What your bank account has to expect

As you plan your educational journey in Germany, it's important to understand the financial aspects of studying and living here. In Germany, all students at all higher education institutions must pay a semester contribution, the so-called semester fee which is not a tuition fee. The semester fee covers students' contributions to student services (canteen, sports and cultural program, psychological counselling etc.) and the student government (the so-called ‘AStA’). At htw saar, the semester fee also includes the free transport ticket for local public transport throughout Germany (Deutschlandticket). We have compiled a brief overview of the most important costs (see below) which includes e.g. accommodation costs and daily living expenses you can expect. Saarbrücken is still an affordable city compared with many other German federal state capitals and if you plan your budget effectively, you can ensure to focus on your academic and personal growth without unexpected financial concerns.

Find more information about the costs of education and living in Germany and other important topics on the website of the German Academic Exchange Service.
