Within the first two weeks of your arrival in Saarbrücken, you must register with the Citizens' Office. Only after you have registered can you open a bank account or apply for your residence permit.

The easiest way is to schedule an appointment online.

Here’s how:

• Click on “Online Appointment: Saarbrücken Citizens’ Office”
• Then click on “Citizens’ Office”
• Then click on “Registration Matters”
• Then click on “Residence Registration: Moving In from Abroad”
• Click the question mark to find out what you need to bring to your appointment

To quickly get an appointment for urgent matters, you can visit the website on weekday mornings and check if an appointment is available for the next day. If so—book it right away!
 

For your appointment, you’ll need the following documents:

• the “Landlord’s Certificate.” You can obtain this from your landlord. If you’ll be living directly in Saarbrücken, you can download a PDF in advance from saarbruecken.de. If you plan to live outside of Saarbrücken, you must download this certificate from the website of the relevant municipal office or request it in person. Presenting the lease agreement alone does not meet the legal requirements!
•  Your lease agreement (if already available)
•  Passport or national ID card

If you live in Saarbrücken, the following Citizens’ Office is responsible for you:

City Citizens’ Office, Gerberstraße 4, 66111 Saarbrücken (near City Hall)

(Bus stop: City Hall or Johanniskirche)

If you live in a suburb of Saarbrücken, the citizens’ office in your respective town is responsible for you.

If you move during your studies, you must register or re-register your new address with the appropriate Citizens’ Office within two weeks.
