Traveling to Saarbrücken by train:
Frankfurt Main is one of Germany’s largest airports and offers many excellent connections. The best way to get to Saarbrücken is to take a direct train from the airport. From your terminal (usually Terminal 1), you can reach the regional train station (“Regionalbahnhof”). If you arrive at Terminal 2, there is a free Sky Train (train) and also a free shuttle bus that will take you to Terminal 1, where the regional train station is located.
There is a direct connection via a regional train that runs hourly to Saarbrücken. The travel time is approx. 2 hours 35 minutes. The schedule can be viewed online: www.bahn.de. Tickets can also be purchased online (e.g., via the DB Navigator app), at a ticket machine, or at the ticket counter directly on the platform.
Traveling to Saarbrücken by bus:
Long-distance buses are a good alternative to traveling by train. There is a direct bus connection between Frankfurt Airport, Terminal 2, and Saarbrücken: www.flixbus.de
The travel time is approximately 2 hours and 50 minutes, and tickets cost only about €10. You’ll find the bus at Terminal 2, at the “bus station.” Just look for the Flixbus sign. Tickets must be purchased online in advance.
Driving to Saarbrücken:
Finally, there are also a variety of car rental companies at Frankfurt am Main Airport, many of which are open 24 hours a day. You can pick up the car at this airport and then return it at the train station in Saarbrücken.
