Willkommen in Saarbrücken!

The airport's website is: www.lux-airport.lu

Traveling to Saarbrücken by bus:
There is a shuttle bus that runs frequently between Saarbrücken Central Station and the train station in Luxembourg ("Luxembourg Gare").
Please take the bus from the airport to the train station in Luxembourg. There is a good bus service that runs several times an hour, and public transportation is free in Luxembourg.

Bus Line 29: www.vdl.lu/en/node/155657

Once you arrive at the train station in Luxembourg ("Luxembourg Gare"), you can take the shuttle bus to the Saarbrücken train station: https://www.emile-weber.lu/fr/ligne-bus-saarbruecken-express.html

The ticket costs €5 and the transfer takes approx. 1 hour 15 minutes (as of February 2024). Tickets can be purchased at ticket offices in the train stations or online via the DB Navigator app.

Saarbrücken Airport is the smallest official airport in Germany.

The airport’s website is: www.flughafen-saarbruecken.de

The bus stop at Saarbrücken Airport is called “Flughafen, Saarbrücken Ensheim (SCN).” From there, you can take the R10 bus to downtown Saarbrücken. This bus runs once an hour to Saarbrücken Central Station. The trip takes 27 minutes.

Tickets can be purchased directly on the bus (€2.90). If you have a valid “Semester Ticket,” you can ride the bus for free; simply show your htw saar card to the bus driver.

The website for the Saarbrücken bus system is: https://saarvv.de

If you are stranded at the airport, for example if your flight arrives very late and there are no more connections, you can call a taxi (phone number: +49 681 55000, price: approx. €40 to downtown Saarbrücken).

The airport’s website is: www.frankfurt-airport.com

Traveling to Saarbrücken by train:
Frankfurt Main is one of Germany’s largest airports and offers many excellent connections. The best way to get to Saarbrücken is to take a direct train from the airport. From your terminal (usually Terminal 1), you can reach the regional train station (“Regionalbahnhof”). If you arrive at Terminal 2, there is a free Sky Train (train) and also a free shuttle bus that will take you to Terminal 1, where the regional train station is located.
There is a direct connection via a regional train that runs hourly to Saarbrücken. The travel time is approx. 2 hours 35 minutes. The schedule can be viewed online: www.bahn.de. Tickets can also be purchased online (e.g., via the DB Navigator app), at a ticket machine, or at the ticket counter directly on the platform.

Traveling to Saarbrücken by bus:
Long-distance buses are a good alternative to traveling by train. There is a direct bus connection between Frankfurt Airport, Terminal 2, and Saarbrücken: www.flixbus.de

The travel time is approximately 2 hours and 50 minutes, and tickets cost only about €10. You’ll find the bus at Terminal 2, at the “bus station.” Just look for the Flixbus sign. Tickets must be purchased online in advance.

Driving to Saarbrücken:
Finally, there are also a variety of car rental companies at Frankfurt am Main Airport, many of which are open 24 hours a day. You can pick up the car at this airport and then return it at the train station in Saarbrücken. If you’re traveling with several people, this can be a way to save some money: Car rental centers at Frankfurt Airport

Hotels
If you get stuck at the airport—for example, if your flight arrives very late and there are no more connections—you can spend the night at the airport. You can find a list of hotels on the airport’s website: Hotels at Frankfurt Airport

You can find bus and train schedules on this website: www.saarfahrplan.de.

There is also an app: Saarfahrplan

. Tickets can be purchased directly from the driver on the bus or at the ticket machines at
tram stops. A single ride within Saarbrücken costs €2.90, and a
day pass costs €5.60. With a valid semester ticket, travel within the Saarland is free.

Arrival at Saarbrücken Central Station (Saarbrücken Hbf)
The bus stop at the station is called “Saarbrücken Hauptbahnhof.” From here, you can take the bus or tram (called the “Saarbahn”) to almost anywhere in the city.

  1. To get to the htw saar Campus-Alt Saarbrücken, it’s best to take bus 124 from the station without transferring to the HTW/SWS stop.
  2. To get to the htw saar Campus Rotenbühl (CRB), the best option is to take bus 124 from the train station, but in the opposite direction, to the Waldhaus, Saarbrücken stop. Or you can take bus 102 to the “Ilseplatz” stop.

You can simply enter the stops on the website or app mentioned above to see all available connections, including bus numbers and transfer options.

If you’d like
to go to your hotel or apartment first
On the website mentioned above, you can also find information about connections to your hotel or apartment in Saarbrücken. You just need to find the name of the bus stop (hotels usually list it on their website). You can then enter this name into the schedule search on the website or in the app to find the connection.
