Teaching at htw saar is designed to combine up-to-date knowledge, innovative methods, and real-world challenges from the field—to ensure a successful start in a dynamic professional world.
For us, innovative teaching means staying open to new ideas, building on proven methods, and designing learning processes that inspire students in the long term. Together, we shape today’s teaching—for the professionals and innovators of tomorrow.
Our Teaching Mission Statement forms the foundation of our shared understanding of good teaching. It describes the core values and principles that shape our teaching practice—from student-centeredness and practical relevance to continuous quality assurance.
Effective teaching is a collaborative effort. That is why we support professors, instructors with special responsibilities, research assistants, and adjunct faculty in continuously refining their teaching approaches and degree programs as a whole, as well as in testing new pedagogical methods. Through seminars on university pedagogy, curriculum workshops, consulting on digital teaching, and the media workshop, we foster the development of ideas and support the implementation of innovative teaching, learning, and assessment formats.
Through internal professional development programs and events designed to foster discussion about effective teaching, we create opportunities for inspiration, reflection, and networking. In collaborative settings, faculty members share their experiences with innovative teaching and learning methods and the challenges posed by a changing student body. Our goal is to cultivate a vibrant teaching and learning culture that sustainably enhances quality, creativity, and collaboration.
We assist faculty members in applying for external funding for teaching projects and provide professional support in project coordination—from the initial idea through to successful implementation. We also offer advice and guidance on applying for teaching awards to highlight innovative teaching approaches and promote their wider adoption.
