Saarbrücken is a city that is particularly worthwhile for international students! Located in the heart of Europe, its proximity to France and Luxembourg lends it an international atmosphere. Despite its internationality, Saarbrücken, as one of the smaller German states, never loses its charming small-town flair. This makes it an inviting place for students from all around the world.
Here you can find a few tips on how to get to Saarbrücken and how to find your way around:

Traveling to Saarbrücken by train:
Frankfurt Main is one of the largest German airports with many good connections. To reach Saarbrücken, it's best to take a direct train from the airport. From your terminal (usually Terminal 1), you can reach the Regional Train Station ("Regionalbahnhof"). If you arrive at Terminal 2, there is a free Sky Train (train) and a free shuttle bus that takes you to Terminal 1, where the Regional Train Station is located.
There is a direct connection with a regional train that departs hourly to Saarbrücken. The journey takes approximately 2 hours and 35 minutes. The schedule can be viewed online at www.bahn.de. Tickets can be purchased online (e.g., through the DB Navigator app), at a ticket machine, or at the ticket counter directly on the platform.
Traveling to Saarbrücken by bus:
Long-distance buses are a good alternative to train travel. There is a direct bus connection between Frankfurt Airport, Terminal 2, and Saarbrücken: www.flixbus.de. The travel time is approximately 2 hours and 50 minutes, and tickets cost only around 10 €. You can find the bus at Terminal 2, at the "Busbahnhof" (bus station). Tickets must be purchased online in advance.
Traveling to Saarbrücken by car:
Finally, there are numerous car rental agencies at Frankfurt Airport, often open 24 hours a day. You can rent a car from this airport and return it at the Saarbrücken train station. If you're traveling with several people, this can be a cost-effective option: Car rental center at Frankfurt Airport.
Hotels:

Saarbrücken Airport is the smallest official airport in Germany.

The bus stop at Saarbrücken Airport is called "Flughafen, Saarbrücken Ensheim (SCN)."
From there, you can take bus R10 to the city center of Saarbrücken. This bus operates once per hour and takes approximately 27 minutes to reach Saarbrücken Main Station.

To travel to Saarbrücken by bus:
There is a shuttle bus that frequently operates between Saarbrücken Main Station and the train station in Luxembourg ("Luxembourg Gare").
Please take the bus from the airport to the train station in Luxembourg. There is a good bus connection that runs several times per hour, and public transportation is free in Luxembourg.

The ticket cost is 5 € (Ticket valid for 2h), and the transfer takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes (as of February 2024). Tickets can be purchased at the pre-sale counters in the train stations or online through the DB Navigator App.
Bus & Tram in Saarbrücken Bus and tram (Saarbahn) connections can be found on this website: www.saarfahrplan.de. There is also an app called "Saarfahrplan". You can buy tickets directly from the bus driver or from the machine at the tram stop. A single trip within Saarbrücken costs 2.70€, a day ticket 5.80 €. With a valid semester ticket from htw saar, travel within Saarland is free.
Arrival at Saarbrücken Central Station (Saarbrücken Hbf)
The bus stop at the train station is called "Saarbrücken Hauptbahnhof". From here you can take the bus or tram (called "Saarbahn") to almost anywhere in the city. 1. To get to the htw Saar Campus-Alt Saarbrücken, it is best to take the bus 124 from the train station to the HTW / SWS stop, without having to change the bus. 2. To get to the htw Saar Campus Rotenbühl (CRB), it is best to take the bus 124 from the train station to the “Waldhaus, Saarbrücken” bus stop, without having to change the bus. You can simply enter the stops on the website or app mentioned above and you will receive all available connections, including bus numbers and transfer options.
If you want to go to your hotel or apartment first
