Distinction between in-house and affiliated institutes:
- In- institutes are created when personnel and material resources are to be pooled to a greater extent for the implementation and development of research projects, skills and teaching tasks. These are scientific operating units of htw saar that are not dependent under organizational law.
- Affiliated institutes are legally independent academic institutions that are linked to htw saar in terms of organization, personnel and infrastructure and have a private legal form, e.g. as a registered association, a limited liability company or a non-profit limited liability company (gGmbH). Their special feature lies in their greater operational flexibility and simultaneous access to the university's expertise, resources and network, without being financed primarily from the university's budget.
