The Bachelor's degree course in International Tourism Management is a modular, fully-fledged business administration course that lasts a total of six semesters. In the first three semesters, you will mainly learn the basics of economics - but there are also initial tourism-specific courses.
From the fourth semester onwards, you will specialize in tourism: here you can choose three compulsory elective modules from the field of tourism, such as destination management, tour operation, hotel management, leisure, sports and adventure management or tourism sociology and psychology.
The fifth semester offers the opportunity to study abroad on a voluntary basis, for example at one of our partner universities. In the sixth semester, you complete a practical study phase of at least twelve weeks abroad and write your Bachelor's thesis. Upon successful completion of the course, you will be awarded the academic degree "Bachelor of Arts".
You can find a detailed description of the course in the current " Annex to the study and examination regulations".
You can find a detailed description of the courses on the course in the module database.

In addition to general admission to a university degree program, you must provide proof of English language proficiency at B2 level. For further information on how to provide proof, please refer to the "Guidelines of the Presidential Board on proof of language proficiency for studying at htw saar (Language Guidelines). No proof is required for French or Spanish for admission to the degree program.

No certificate is required for French or Spanish for admission to the course. However, we recommend that you have a solid basic knowledge of the language (approximately level A2, B1), as no courses are offered purely for beginners. In so-called "intensive courses", first-year students have the opportunity to refresh their language skills.
As a degree course in economics, a sound basic knowledge of mathematics is required in many courses right from the start. First-year students are given the opportunity to repeat all topics that will subsequently be required in the degree program in so-called "bridge courses" before the start of the courses (usually in September).

Yes, the degree program is accredited by FIBAA

You attend specialist courses in foreign languages. You complete your internship and/or part of your studies abroad. You can write your thesis in a foreign language. You will acquire intercultural skills by participating in (international) events such as excursions, joint seminars and workshops, etc. You will receive language training in at least two foreign languages (English and French or Spanish)

Possible fields of activity for ITM graduates include management positions (leadership, marketing, PR, etc.) in private-sector companies in the tourism industry (destinations, hotels, tour operators, etc.), in public tourism organizations (e.g. destination management organizations), in state and regional authorities (e.g. tourism offices) or in private-law, non-profit tourism institutions (e.g. associations, clubs, NGOs).

If you have any further questions about the course, please contact the Director of Studies, Prof. Dr. Achim Schröder, achim.schroeder@htwsaar.de
