Since 2008, htw saar has continuously developed and strengthened its ties with China. It currently maintains relationships with several colleges and universities throughout China. While student exchanges—particularly through its 2010 membership in the CDHAW consortium—were initially the primary focus, it quickly became apparent that there were opportunities for collaboration at other levels as well.
To consolidate, intensify, and raise the profile of htw saar’s China-related activities—which extend beyond teaching—the German-Chinese Institute (CDI) was founded at htw saar in January 2015.
The CDI@htwsaar portfolio currently comprises two main pillars: continuing education and research. The continuing education offerings are aimed in particular at Chinese university staff—both at the management level and among teaching staff—and are geared toward supporting the establishment of universities of applied sciences based on the German model.
In the area of research, against the backdrop of the German-Chinese government consultations in October 2014, the focus of activities is on the application-oriented examination of topics in the Industry 4.0 environment. Contacts with companies in the region and on the Chinese side are an indispensable component of this.
The intersection of these two pillars is the “Digitalization in Production Test Field” at htw saar, which is designed to support the continuing education of “Industry 4.0 personnel.”
In addition to these priorities, the CDI@htwsaar generally serves as a mediator and provides administrative and intercultural support for projects with Chinese partners. The institute also offers a growing range of opportunities for interested students.
