htw saar actively promotes the acquisition of skills by its employees. The legal entitlement to educational leave is one way of making use of this. Educational leave offers also enable employees of htw saar to take time off work to participate in professional and political training measures for up to five days per calendar year.
The DGB Bildungswerk (and perhaps other providers too?) offers the opportunity to take educational leave together with your children. You can find more information about this on their website under the heading "Children and parents traveling together".
Educational leave can be applied for after six months of employment or service at the earliest. The current status of the requirements for taking educational leave can be found on the website of the Ministry of Education and Culture.
Applications for educational leave can be submitted informally by letter or email to the Human Resources Department for the attention of Mr. Nagy. The letter should include the date, title and scope of the event as well as proof that the event complies with the SBFG (Saarland Education Leave Act). You will receive such proof from the training provider. If courses are recognized in other federal states, they will generally also be accepted by Saarland. We will be happy to send you the relevant confirmation.
Please also inform your superiors of your plans. The measure must be applied for at least six weeks before the start of the chosen training measure.
The exemption also applies to educational events abroad, such as language courses, but only for courses offered by state-recognized further education institutions in Saarland or for measures offered by external providers, provided they have been approved by the Saarland Ministry of Economic Affairs and Labour.
Numerous offers can be found, for example, in the further education program of the Saarland Chamber of Labour at the Kirkel Education Centre and on websites such as bildungsurlaub.de or bildungsurlauber.de
