Second choice of study program (alternate application)

You must apply for your second choice of program (supplementary application).

Applications are submitted online via the htw saar SIM application portal:

Procedure:

• Register* or log in** to the SIM application portal* or SIM student portal**
• Select the "Bachelor's & Master's Program Application" tile
• Under “Application” in the drop-down menu, select the option “Second Choice of Bachelor’s Programs, 1st Semester Supplementary Application”
• Complete the application in full, including all sections (see the menu at the top left of the application)
• Upload any required documents in the designated section
• Click "Submit Application" (button at the bottom right of the application)

Supplementary applications will only be considered if you have not been offered a spot in your first-choice program after the waitlist process has concluded, all initial applications for your second-choice program have been processed, and there are still spots available. Therefore, decisions on supplementary applications can only be made after the waitlist process has concluded.

If you are admitted to your second-choice program, you will receive an admission notice. A separate rejection notice will not be sent.

As soon as a decision is available, you will be notified via email and through the application portal. The decision is available in your application portal under the “Documents” button in the “My Decisions” section.

Once you have received your admission letter in the application portal, you must accept the offer of admission withinthe specified deadline and submit your application for enrollment withinthe specifieddeadline.

Applications for a second program of study (supplementary application) are only accepted at htw saar for the winter semester. The application deadline is July 15.

Is there a delay in receiving your diploma?

If you will not receive proof of your university entrance qualification from your school by July 15, please request a certificate from your school stating the type of degree, your grade point average in accordance with the State Treaty on the Allocation of University Places, and the date the certificate was issued, and submit it via the application portal within the application deadline. You must submit your final transcript no later than the time of enrollment.

Do you have the academic portion of the Fachhochschulreife?

Submitting only the academic portion of the Fachhochschulreife is not sufficient. In such cases, you must apply for and submit the full Fachhochschulreife (academic + vocational portion) to the relevant Ministry of Education. You can find further information here.

Will you complete the vocational component of the Fachhochschulreife after the application deadline?

If the practical component of the Fachhochschulreife has not yet been fully completed by the application deadline but will be obtained by the start of the semester (October 1 or April 1), htw saar will also accept a provisional certificate from the relevant school authority for the application. The final certificate confirming the award of the Fachhochschulreife must be submitted to htw saar no later than upon enrollment.
