Studying part-time does not confer a legal right to a separate curriculum or course offerings. Course schedules are not adjusted for part-time study. It is therefore possible that courses may be held only in the morning or only in the afternoon, for example. Part-time students are responsible for coordinating their studies independently and will receive support from the relevant academic offices as needed.
For those eligible for BAföG, there is currently no financial aid available while studying part-time. However, a semester of part-time study counts as only half a university semester when resuming full-time study. Therefore, it is essential that you notify the BAföG office of any change to part-time or full-time enrollment.
Studying part-time may affect certain benefits and entitlements, such as financial aid, residency status, health insurance, etc.
When studying part-time, a maximum of 60% of the course load may be completed. All modules taken in a semester are included in the calculation, regardless of whether the coursework was successfully completed or not. If more than 60% of the course load is completed, this constitutes full-time study.
The full semester tuition fee is due when studying part-time.
