We aim to prepare our Master’s students for professional practice by strengthening their analytical skills, teaching them quantitative methods and fostering creativity. Sustainability, digitalization, digital business models, and artificial intelligence are essential components of the program, as future professionals will constantly be required to implement new—especially digital—concepts to respond effectively to change.

Nothing is more constant than change—and business models as well as logistics have undergone a large amount of change over the past 20 years. It is, above all, conceptual and digital transformation that has driven the economy and industry forward and enabled them to operate more effectively.
The global interconnectedness of economies and industries requires the efficient and increasingly sustainable transport of goods around the world. Whether in parcel delivery for e-commerce platforms, in negotiations with suppliers, or in the optimization of global supply structures, academically trained professionals and future leaders are indispensable in an increasingly complex and networked environment. They must be able to coordinate, monitor, and manage the flow of materials, information, and finances along the entire value chain.
To meet these demands, business models are becoming ever more digital in order to maintain competitiveness and open up new markets. Digital technologies enable companies to operate with greater flexibility, efficiency, and customer focus. They create new opportunities for interaction with suppliers and customers, while products and services can be developed and produced more rapidly and cost-effectively. Students therefore need the ability to fully harness the potential of digital transformation in the age of artificial intelligence and translate it into value for organizations.
At the htw saar, students acquire this essential expertise in the Master’s program in “Supply Chain Management und Digital Business”. Applications are accepted for both the summer and the winter semester from graduates of 6-semester Bachelor’s programs (180 ECTS credits) and 7-semester Bachelor’s programs (210 ECTS credits).
The program provides practice-oriented training in supply chain management, business informatics, and quantitative methods for decision support. In addition, it strengthens soft skills, teamwork, communication, project management, and social competence. Our aim is to prepare students to make a meaningful contribution across all areas of supply chain management and digital business, and to enable them to address both strategic and operational challenges—ranging from procurement and sales to mobility and digitalization.
The Master’s program “Supply Chain Management und Digital Business” addresses the following key questions:
The Master's program at htw saar was the perfect starting point for my career path. The practical orientation and in-depth understanding of strategic processes taught on the course helped me to quickly take on responsibility and develop efficient, innovative solutions. I particularly appreciate the focus on digitalization and sustainable supply chain strategies, which are essential in today's world. Looking back, I am very grateful for this solid foundation, which has prepared me perfectly for my current role.

Thanks to the international orientation of the Master’s program, graduates have access to a wide range of opportunities to take on demanding specialist and leadership roles in industry, trade, or the service sector. By combining supply chain management with digital business, the program addresses the crucial interface between logistics and information technology—an area that currently offers some of the most promising career prospects in companies. Digital transformation is fundamentally reshaping the world of work and requires graduates to continuously develop their academic competencies and to collaborate effectively across diverse organizational functions.
Some graduates also choose to continue working with one of the htw saar’s industry partners, while others pursue an academic path, including the option of completing a doctoral degree at the University.
As an alumna of the Master's program, I can say in retrospect that the course laid an excellent foundation for my career. The practice-oriented training and the in-depth theoretical knowledge we were taught helped me to understand and actively shape the complex interrelationships of global supply chains. The close connection to industry and the opportunity to implement real projects within the framework of company projects and case studies were particularly valuable. The lecturers not only bring specialist knowledge, but also practical experience from the business world, which enriched the lectures enormously. Thanks to the small group size and the intensive exchange, I was able to gain deeper insights into current developments and technologies in supply chain management and expand my network in the long term.
