Funding information:
The project "Collaborative project: Holistic empowerment for hybrid value creation (ABILITY); sub-project: Evaluation of the feasibility and implementation risks of hybrid value creation business models", funding reference 02L17B022, is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the European Social Fund as part of the "Future of Work" program as part of the umbrella program "Innovations for the production, services and work of tomorrow".
Project duration: 01.03.2019 - 30.05.2022
What is this project about?
Progressive innovations in the field of information and communication technology not only expand the technical possibilities for the continuous optimization of production processes or pave the way for the self-controlling factory, but also offer opportunities and potential in other areas. For example, selected products can already be produced more efficiently and at the same time highly flexibly in batch size 1 thanks to digitalization. However, technical products alone are no longer enough to meet constantly growing customer needs. In the B2C market, hardware is already being offered in combination with a wealth of additional services. A prominent example of this is the smartphone, which would no longer be conceivable without the associated apps. However, there are also other services around this technical device, some of which offer added value for the user at low additional cost or even free of charge. These include, for example, extended warranties, software packages or insurance. This fulfills additional customer needs relating to the product and increases customer loyalty. Such service bundles consisting of a product and product-related services are referred to as product service systems (PSS), hybrid service bundles or hybrid value creation.
Hybrid value creation is little or not at all widespread in the B2B sector, particularly among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). However, preliminary work in the area of Industry 4.0 allows the business model to be opened up in this direction. As part of the joint project "ABILITY - Holistic Enablement for Hybrid Value Creation", an enablement system is therefore to be developed that supports companies in transforming their traditional business model (provider of services in kind) into an innovative business model of hybrid value creation. In the sub-project of the wi institute of htw saar "Evaluation of the feasibility and implementation risks of hybrid value creation business models", the focus is on identifying possible risks that could arise from the transformation into a hybrid business model and managing them to enable successful implementation. In addition, the technical and economic feasibility of the targeted business models will be examined and evaluated.
As part of the htw saar sub-project, research is being conducted in the following areas:
